Care and attention is given to each stage of a student's individual’s transition into, through and beyond DSLV. Planned transition arrangements are designed to help children manage change, since joining a new class or phase can be a stressful time, which can be characterised by withdrawn, unresponsive or inappropriate behaviour.
Prior to transition, care is taken with the collection of information in cooperation and partnership with parents/carers, staff and where age appropriate with the student.
Key Stage 3, 4 and 5
A rigorous programme is in place at DSLV to ensure the process of Transition is as smooth as possible. Arrangements include: Induction Days, Induction Evening, Challenge Day, various competitions and Open Mornings.
At DSLV Senior and Sixth Form individual pathways meetings with a member of the Senior Management Team ensure students learning needs are met by the most appropriate curriculum pathway. All students belonging to one of five colleges: Brunel, Franklin, McAdam, Royce and Stephenson as part of a vertical tutoring system, ensuring effective mentoring and pastoral support for the needs of all learners.
Transition into Senior and Sixth Form commences with a Formal Open Evening, followed by opportunities for children and their families to attend slightly less formal Open Mornings. Induction activities offer the chance for both DSLV Primary and Nursery and Partner Primary School children within the Daventry Rural and Town Areas to visit and experience school life through structured induction activities. Alongside visits to Primaries throughout the year, additional SEN arrangements prepare students for KS3, underpinned by a pathways approach to learning which enables achievement and progression suited to the needs of all learners.
