Ski Trip to Pinzolo Italy February 2017

On Friday 10th February, 37 students and 4 members of staff set off on the annual academy ski trip which this time was to Pinzolo/Madonna di Campiglio in Italy. After a long 26 hour journey we arrived in resort and went to get kitted up for our first day of skiing on the following day.

Progress was very quick, with all beginners able to control a snowplough and create linked turns and stop. Not bad after only a few hours on the slopes!

All groups progressed on to at least blue slopes by the third day. Our top group only had a few hours on an indoor snow slope prior to coming and already were tackling hard reds and a black slope! Seriously impressive stuff.

During the lunch breaks students had the chance to relax and have the odd snowball fight. They appeared to really enjoy the burgers and hot dogs on offer too. When do children aged 12 to 17 not?

In the evening we walked to ‘La Botte’ for our evening meals, which the children lapped up after a hard day on the slopes. Further evening entertainment consisted of a quiz, ice-skating and bum boarding. They enjoyed it so much and were really impressed with the resort itself too. It had some spectacular views. Bum-boarding was by far their best evening activity. Much hilarity ensued!

For the last of our ski days we skied in Madonna di Campiglio. After a slow start due to tiredness, the students absolutely loved the variety of slopes and the snow conditions of being at a higher resort. They loved just cruising about practising their turns.

For many students this will be a once in a lifetime trip and something they will always remember. Even if it is only a one off, I’m sure there are many more converts to watching snow sports on Ski Sunday now too.
